Solitary Spathe

Project Type

Photography

Date

April 2023

Acrylic

I painted Solitary Spathe as a reflection on solitude and the quiet strength it can hold. The flower stands alone against a deep purple background, with its spathe folding inward as though protecting something delicate at its centre. I wanted its curved layers and copper lines to capture the way we sometimes turn inward—not because we are empty, but because certain parts of us need stillness before they can be understood. The green spadix remains upright within the softer petals, becoming a point of steadiness amid their movement. To me, the painting represents learning to exist fully in one’s own presence. Solitude can feel exposed, yet it can also become a space where we listen to ourselves more honestly and recognize the strength that has been quietly forming within us.
